Excerpt of article text...
This may seem like yet another article on AI, but trust me: this is more about XojoScript.
About a year ago I wrote about some updates to my Xojo Grammar Editor (see
xDev 22.6 ). I've been using this app to proofreadxDev since then, and I eventually ran into a few limitations. The main thing I discovered is that I wanted to adjust the proofreading prompt to ChatGPT based on the type of material I was proofreading. Technical writing, with code, like we run here in
xDev , is one thing, but fiction is another. I sometimes do other kinds of writing, too. That was one of the reasons I added the ability to run XojoScripts within Xojo Grammar Editor. For
xDev , I wanted some post-processing that would fix some of the things that ChatGPT likes to mangle when it edits text. I don't need those for my fiction, but I might need another kind of processing. But when I actually used my scripts long-term, I discovered that what I really wanted was to be able to adjust the prompt. For instance, for fiction, I could ask ChatGPT for just pure proofreading or for analysis, such as telling me if my characters are too stereotypical or if my writing is doing more telling than showing. While I wouldn't take such advice as gospel, it can be helpful in seeing through the weeds.
One day recently, I got fed up with this limitation, and I quickly added the ability to change the prompt via my XojoScript.
