I'm not sure what the name means, but if you're looking for a great way to keep track of estimates and invoices, clients, projects, and accounting, this do-almost-everything program might be just what you need.
If you run any kind of business, you need to keep track of your time, manage projects and clients, and handle accounting duties. Obviously there are many different programs to handle those various tasks, but few programs attempt to do all those and even fewer do it as elegantly as Studiometry.
The beauty and power of Studiometry is that all data you create is linked: your contacts and clients, to-do items, projects, and accounting items are all interlinked. This lets you traverse all your data anyway you'd like to. You can find the client, then find the project, or start with the project to follow up on the billing.
Studiometry packs an amazing amount of power within a small package. There's an iCal-like calendar, to-do lists, timers for keeping track of time spent on tasks, accounting, invoicing, and reporting. Such diversity might prompt the old expression "Jack of all trades, master of none" yet every one of those features includes the same kinds of extras you might find in a program that only does one or two things. For instance, the Invoice Preview window includes a handy Email button for quickly attaching the invoice as a PDF to an email.
Unfortunately, the program's depth can get overly complicated; I found myself at times wondering how to do something I knew the program could do but not remembering how I accessed that screen or where the menu item was located (for example, something you do rarely like editing an invoice template). However, that's something that I'll get used to with experience. The program's online help is well-written and comprehensive (though I dislike that it launches a separate help program instead of being built-in).
Studiometry was made with REALbasic and won REAL Software's Best Business Software in the 2005 Design Awards and it's obvious to see why. The software is powerful, flexible, and has an excellent interface.
