Pod Secret from Pariahware, Inc. is a portable encrypted storage program for both Mac OS X and Windows. Pod Secret can be installed on portable devices such as an iPod or thumbdrive so that your data is always with you. Upon downloading the program, the user is presented with the Application and a ReadMe file. Inside the ReadMe is a brief note to use the Help menu to read the documentation. This leads the user to assume the program can be installed and run in any location.

When running the program, the user is presented with a simple and clean window to begin using the program. Following the directions in the ReadMe file there is a 'Read Documentation...' option located in the Help menu. This menu item opens a very clean help system which has a fatal flaw! The help program does not have any information about Pod Secret but rather the help system for a different program from Pariahware. With no user documentation it is difficult to understand how the program was intended to be used.

Pod Secret is designed to be very flexible by allowing the program to support multiple users which each have a unique password. The program can be used to store whatever information the user would like such as: medical vaccinations, credit cards, bank information, serial number, etc. Because of the vast variety of information that can be stored, Pod Secret has a customizable category option to make filtering and finding information very easy.

All information is encrypted and stored in a file that gets written to the same folder where the program is located. So to store the data on an iPod or thumbdrive it requires that the program also be stored on the device. This means that space is used on the device to store the program but also ensures portability by having the data and program with the user. As an added level of security there is a preference option that sets a timeout in minutes to require re-entering of the user's password.

Overall, this program is very flexible and allows the storage of any information that the user would like to keep secure. It is lacking any added features such as templates for different type of information or the ability to define where the data file is saved.

You can download a trial version of Pod Secret which allows you to use the program for 7 days. For $29.95, you can obtain a registration key that will removes this limitation.
