Excerpt of article text...
Continuing with our look at database servers that work with REALbasic, we now look at OpenBase SQL, a database that was originally developed for the NextStep OS in 1991.
OpenBase
OpenBase SQL works with Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. Although it is generally not free, there are free versions available. In particular, OpenBase Solo is a free single-server, local-access version of OpenBase SQL that includes On-Target Reports and can be deployed at no charge for single-user applications.
Even better for REALbasic users is the free OpenBase Unlimited for REALbasic. This edition of OpenBase provides unrestricted access when using the OpenBase Connectivity Module for REALbasic. It also includes a license to On-Target Reports and a Code Builder application that generates REALbasic code that you can use to access your database schema. I contacted OpenBase and was given the license information for this edition, which they've allowed me to republish here (see the sidebar).
