Going Postal
Producing a publication like
RBD has its rewards and frustrations. One of the latter is our dependence on the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the magazine. In May 2007 the U.S.P.S.completely eliminated the international periodical rate, meaning that--overnight--my costs for international delivery have nearly tripled!Naturally, I've been forced to raise prices for the international print edition. Of course this only effects international
But this postal frustration has me wondering about the need of a print edition. Would not having a print edition of the magazine bother you? There are some advantages to going digital-only, including instant delivery, but of course, it's not paper.

In This Issue
At this writing Apple's iPhone has only been out about a month, but thanks to being able to build upon work by Joe Strout, I managed to figure out how to build web applications for the iPhone in REALbasic and write an article before our press deadline. While the article is obviously iPhone-focused, it's great information for anyone wanting to develop their own web applications. I hope you enjoy it.
In other features, JC Cruz has an article on sending and receiving encrypted email from within REALbasic, and Christian Schmitz (author of the Monkeybread Software Plugins for REALbasic) shows how to use his plugin to work with
statusitems (icons on the Mac OS X menubar). Paul Lefebrve has a Postmortem of his open source RBUnit software, and Dave Mancuso (our new Review Editor) writes a little opinion piece.Of course our regular columns are here as always--and I'd like to extend a warm welcome to Brad Rhine who has taken over the
From Scratch column from Will Leshner. Brad is starting a new project this issue and he's got some great ideas for the future. Be sure to let him know what you think!
