I first became aware of Tim Hare as a result of his posts on the Xojo forum. He's been a forum member since April of 2005, and I've always found his posts to be thoughtful, courteous, and helpful. So I reached out to Tim to see if he'd be willing to be my first interviewee. I'm grateful that he said "yes" and that we get a chance to learn more about him.

Tim's Background

When did you first become interested in software development?

In 1977 I strolled into the high school library to find a brand new TRS-80 on the counter. We could play games on it and the librarian showed me BASIC.

You earned a B.A. in Computer Science from the University of Oregon. How important has that formal education been to you in your professional career?

It has been very important. In 1983, it was practically a requirement. I've met self-taught programmers who were good. And I've met some who could benefit from a little formal training.
